Description

This is a small Deccan hand-carved wooden window from North Karnataka. These small windows kept the heat out of homes, and no one could get in even without bars and glass. The window has been beautifully carved in the Deccan confluence of Persian, Mughal and local traditions. The cusped arches are reminiscent of Mughal architecture, and the multiple door jams of temple architecture. The niches on either side are also remarkably similar to miniature Deccan paintings. Above this are three flower designs, and everything is painted in glorious vegetable colours.
