Description

Makonde art is an indigenous art form distinct to Makonde people, an ethnic tribe of southeastern Tanzania and northern Mozambique. While this ancient tradition of creating intricate carvings is believed to predate the 1700s, some of methods and materials used changed after the 1930s. Initially, subjects such as figures, household objects, and masks were carved by the Makonde artisans.

Representing the native art form, this arresting showpiece augments the look of any space, displaying skilled craftsmanship in a complex carved design that is harmoniously rendered.
