Description

Cloisonne is an ancient technique for decorating metalwork objects with colored material held in place or separated by metal strips or wire, normally made of gold.
From Byzantium or the Islamic world, this technique reached China in the 13-14th centuries; the first written reference is in a book of 1388, where it is called "Dashi ware".
This unique find is a Cloisonne box of Oriental origin. The words "With Compliments of Bank of China Calcutta" are inscribed on the top in English and Chinese. Various figures with musical instruments decorate the box.
