  • ABOUT Nagesh Goud

Born in 1965, Bolgum Nagesh Goud is a gold medallist from Jawaharlal Nehru Technology University (JNTU), Hyderabad, where he completed his degree in Fine Arts. He is known for creating striking artworks inspired by the great Indian epics - the Mahabharata and the Ramayana. His stylized paintings traverse the figurative, semi-abstract and abstract forms. Ancient stories from mythology are an inherent part of the artist’s repertoire. Symbols from the famous epics are used to adorn the protagonists and illustrate the narratives. The graphic renderings within the face or body forms resonate with the art of traditional leather puppetry of Andhra Pradesh, blending the past with the present. Using defined curvaceous forms, strong colours and sharpened features, Nagesh Goud created visually stunning artworks where the intricate narrative is highlighted as much as the main figure. Monochromatic scales are alternated with vivid shades to create a sense of balance.

Nagesh Goud has participated in numerous exhibitions and artists’ camps all over India and abroad. He was awarded by the Hyderabad Art Society in 2010, as well as JNTU in 1989-1991 and was “Highly Commended” by the Lalit Kala Samiti, Siddipet in 1987. His work is part of several important private collections. The artist lives and works in Hyderabad.
