A versatile and celebrated artist, Seema Kohli was honoured with the Lalit Kala Akademi National Award for Women in 2007, for her accomplishments in the contemporary Indian art scene. She gives an exquisite form to her expressions through several disciplines such as paintings, sculpture, installation and performance.
Rejoicing in the female's power, energy, beauty and sensuality, Seema Kohli’s creations portray the various facets of a woman. Shakti, the higher cosmic energy that radiates through the female embodiment has been deeply dealt with and depicted in most of her works. A self-taught artist with over three decades of practice, she draws inspiration from mythology, philosophy, iconography and literature to create stories that reclaim the lost feminine narrative in cultural history.
The artist interweaves the spiritual and mythical as well as the personal and universal into her art. Time is another subject that greatly dominates her work. She projects her creations in big and small formats with several layers of drawings and colours that create a visual enchantment.
Seema Kohli's works have been showcased in international art fairs at Basel, Shanghai and Madrid. Her public art murals are displayed at the New Delhi International Airport, Mumbai International Airport and Domestic Airport, the Defense Ministry, Tata Residency and Manipal University.
