  • ABOUT Praveen Kumar

Praveen Kumar was born in 1971 in Mangalore, and completed his MVA (Painting) from Jain University, Bangalore. Hailing from a family of goldsmiths, he always wanted to become an artist, but before doing so, he worked in an architecture firm for several years.

Praveen is best known for his striking abstract depictions of cities. His unusual cityscapes are still and meditative, composed of enigmatic architectural forms that are characters in their own right. Using a mix of mediums such as acrylic, watercolour, pen and ink, and charcoal, his paintings depict urban landscapes in geometric configurations, that are rich in colour and movement. For the artist, cities, with their own sighs, noise, chaos and chatter, are metaphors for the human condition.

The artist has been a part of numerous solo shows and group exhibitions all across India and abroad. He has also received numerous awards and recognition for his art, including the Leela Puraskar Indore (2014), the Sa-Mudra-Nirman-Puraskar (2012) and the Lalit Kala Akademi, Karnataka State Award (2008).
