This piece from the early 20th century, is a horse blanket. Beautifully woven, the blanket features a seemingly chaotic and joyful range of icons depicting people, animals and flora. The blanket is a kilim weaving, into which wool knots have been inserted from the front, to add a three-dimensional layer of symbols. The tassels on the edges of the blanket add to the rustic beauty of this weaving.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Do not use any harsh brushes to clean the rug or carpet. Soft brooms can be used on a regular basis for cleaning. You can also vacuum regularly to keep dirt from getting trapped in fibres. If a spill occurs, blot immediately, but do not rub the stain. Expose the rug or carpet to the sun for some time if it gets wet. Rotate the rug occasionally to equalize wear. Use protectors under the legs of heavy furniture to avoid flattening and piling. If a thread comes loose, do not pull on it; instead, trim gently with scissors. Periodic professional cleaning of rugs and carpets is recommended.
